The crabs soak up the rich coconut sauce flavor,  making them even more mouthwatering. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Alimasag vs Alimango<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Alimasa<\/em>g and <em>alimango <\/em>can be used interchangeably in recipes, but they're actually two different crab species. Alimango are large crabs with large, fat claws and smooth, evenly-colored shells. They're also known as mud or black crab and live in freshwater. Alimasag, on the other hand, has thin claws or legs and a thorny, usually spotted shell (but not always). They live in saltwater and are also called blue or white sea crabs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The crabs we used in the photos are alimango as they were the only ones we could find in the wet markets the day the pictures were shot. However, canned variety is more convenient and easily accessible.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Thai chili peppers<\/strong>- for milder heat, substitute finger chilis (<em>siling haba<\/em>)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Fish sauce-&nbsp;<\/strong>lends a savory and umami flavor to the dish. You can also use shrimp paste.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Vegetables<\/strong>- <em>sitaw<\/em> (long beans) and <em>calabasa<\/em> (winter squash) add flavor, texture, and nutrients to the dish and extend the servings.
