So when I found this <a href=\"http:\/\/www.russianfilipinokitchen.com\/2015\/05\/19\/curried-okra-and-tomato\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">curried okra and tomato<\/a>, I was eager to try it. Good thing I always have a good stock of the vegetable in my fridge because I have the dish ready to enjoy in minutes without having to rush to the supermarket for ingredients.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The recipe was indeed delicious and worth my excitement. It's a keeper. Break off the end to check for freshness; it\u00a0should snap rather than bend.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Avoid pods that look shriveled and have brown spots or blemishes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pick ones that are about 2 to 4 inches long. As the okra matures and grows in length, it can turn hard and fibrous.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Very young okra have white seeds; brown and dried pips may be a sign of over-maturing.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do not wash the vegetable until ready to use. Store in a loose paper bag or plastic bag in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Trim the ends of the pod and cut into horizontally into about \u00bd-inch lengths.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Saute the onions and garlic in a wide pan until softened.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Add tomatoes and okra and cook.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Add curry powder, chili powder, and salt and pepper to taste. Stir to combine.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Add water and bring to a simmer. Lower heat and simmer until vegetable is tender.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-to-remove-slime\">How to remove slime<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>When cooked, Okra fingers are mucilaginous and usually release a thick, gluey substance. This characteristic \"goo\" contains soluble fiber as well as helps thicken stews such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kawalingpinoy.com\/pinakbet\/\">pinakbet<\/a> or gumbo, but the slippery texture can be offputting to some.
